Return of the Prodigal Coach

Written by MK

Michigan Wolverine University brings back old coach Brady Hoke.

Brady Hoke returns to the former school which he helped to win the championship during 1997 season. He was the defensive line coach at the time under the staff of Coach Gary Moeller. In 2002 he was named associate coach by the former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. He was the only member of the staff with that distinction. During his 8 year at Michigan, the Wolverines compiled a record of 75-23; they went to the bowl game every year and also won the championship in 1997.

With the devastating defeat of 52-14 against Mississippi State at the Gator Bowl, The last head coach of Michigan Rich Rodriguez got fired last Wednesday.

Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon took the decision to have Hoke as his new head coach. Jim Harbaugh and Les Miles were in the options but Brandon said Hoke was the first option always and not the backup; "The job was never offered to them".

Brady Hoke loves Michigan, everybody knows it, and he doesn't need to prove anything to the football team. All his past records, talk for him; Hoke records as assistance coach dates since 1983 at Grand valley State, Western Michigan 1984 to 1986, Toledo 1987 to 1988, Oregon State 1989 to 1994 of course, Michigan 1995 to 2002. Also, he was the 14th head coach for Ball State 2002 and 17th head coach for San Diego State 2008. Hoke was named coach of the year in the Mountain West Conference in 2010 after leading the Aztecs to mark 9-4 with a 5-3 record.

Even Jim Tressel of the rival Ohio State lauded Hoke "A good man. He's a Michigan man. He's a Midwestern man. He's a good coach" Hoke met the team on Wednesday morning before being introduced as the Michigan 19th coach in the news.
