Football Betting Tips pt2

By: HHA

In the previously article I wrote about overnight lines. Now I'm going to write about another aspect of the Football game that you can consider at the moment you are making up your mind to wager. This factor depends on observations you should make over some period of time on a team on the league, and the behavior of the game itself.

Do not bet on pre-season games; these games serve as a showcase for back-up players to demonstrate to the coach how they can help the team. In this kind of game, the starter players get little action and the outcome of these games is uncertain because of that.

Look for teams with winning streaks or losing streaks; it is hard for any team to keep on wining for a long period of time, while a team on a losing streak will eventually win, so try to find team with streaks of at least 3 games (wining or losing) and make the bet thinking that the streak is going to break. So, in other words, bet against teams on long wining streaks and make a bet for teams on losing streaks; this last advice could provide good profit since the betting lines for the underdog are better. There is another point on looking for teams that begin the season with very long streaks of wining (more than 4 on a streak) and waiting for a losing game: when a team loses a game after a long wining streak the are likely to lose the next one, because they are still down due to the last game or fell out of synchrony. But be careful; this may work more often than not, but try to analyze all factors before the bet.

When two teams seem to be relative equal on the odds and standings, the best you could do is pick the one with better defense; contrary to the saying, the best offense is a good defense. Good offense is good for the show, but in the long run the team with better defense tends to perform better, so look for a solid defense.

Betting for the underdog at home is a popular choice among bettors but this is not a sure call. It is better to do that kind of wager when the underdog is at home in more than one consecutive game, especially when they have been defeated in the previous game.

When a team makes changes in the coaching lines and they are on the road it becomes more difficult to win games. Making changes to the offensive and the strategy takes time; the players have to get used to the new management. On top of that, beware of this situation if the quarterback is a rookie. This position is fundamental on the offensive mechanics and requires experience to adapt, and this is even more difficult to do while on the road.
